Using our Distribution Future Energy Scenarios

What are Distribution Future Energy Scenarios (DFES)?
Distribution Future Energy Scenarios (DFES ) are UK Power Networks DSO’s granular forecasts of net zero drivers, across four scenario ‘worlds’.
Key drivers, such as low-carbon technology adoption, efficiency improvements, and flexible energy use, shape each scenario’s pathway to 2050, depending on decarbonisation speed and societal change.

We use these forecasts and scenarios to inform our network capacity planning and investment, helping us make capacity available at the right time in the right place to support the net zero transition.
How are these scenarios relevant to me?
The DFES demonstrate what decarbonisation might look like under different conditions.
They are helpful to:
-
Show what pathways to decarbonisation could look like in your area
-
Understand whether our forecasts match your own ambitions at a local and technology level
-
Utilise as resource to inform and model your own forecasts
How can I influence these forecasts?
Our forecasts can be enhanced by understanding your own plans and forecasts, and we provide six simple ways that you can share this information with us.
By sharing your plans with us, we can use them to inform our network capacity planning, ensuring that we’re supporting your needs whilst investing in the network with confidence.
